How The MJM Yacht Design Makes For A Better Boating Experience
Learn about 2 of over 30 problems solved by the MJM Yachts design: Speed to outrun weather, and Overcoming rough sea conditions.
Boating is fun, exciting, adventurous; it is also relaxing and creates lifelong memories. Like anything in life, it doesn’t always go to plan when it comes to the weather, and this seems particularly true in boating.
The MJM design philosophy has encompassed addressing many issues that can impact your boating experience; each MJM model solves over 30 boating problems. This article will look at two; speed, as it relates to outrunning the weather and the anxiety of rough sea conditions.

Speed To Outrun The Weather
How fast you can go is something we hear a lot about in boating, but most times, expressed as “top speed.” The reality is, most boaters don’t run around at wide-open throttle. Why? Well first off, most boats aren’t very comfortable at top speed; they are loud, they pound, and generally deliver a less than desirable experience.
Another reason is fuel economy, not from a cost point of view, but how it relates to your range; the higher the fuel consumption, the shorter the range. So, by default, most boaters end up cruising around at a speed that maximizes economy, comfort, reduced noise, and overall enjoyment of the ride.
A common such speed ends up in the 19-28 knot range, most commonly to as “best cruise.” Now factor in that the average storm travels between 25-30 knots (source: BoatUS, NAOA); this makes for a potential problem.
Checking and knowing the weather beforehand is your best first defense, but sometimes the weather happens. The solution is the speed of an MJM, not just the top speed, but the actual cruising speed.
Each MJM utilizes the latest in advanced hull geometry, superior construction materials, and advanced manufacturing processes. The result is a better boat.
Thanks to the optimum 3.5:1 length to beam ratio, an MJM is more stable and gets through the water more efficiently. This efficiency translates into a much high-speed range, with an average cruise speed ten to fifteen knots higher. This gives an MJM the ability to outrun most weather or get into port within a small weather window.

Overcoming Rough Sea Conditions
Another weather-related problem for most boats is the anxiety from rough conditions. It would be great if every day was a perfect boating day, but depending upon where you are, your perfect days may be limited. So, what do you do when the wind and waves pick up?
Here again, the combination of hull design and construction of an MJM comes to the rescue. Each is designed and built to the toughest standards for seaworthiness. The MJM 53z is certified ISO Category “A” Ocean rating, highest standards for stability, and handling.
When other boats are being tossed around and trying to pound through ways, an MJMs hull uses the wave energy to add stability. The deep-V entry allows an MJM to push through and over waves while tracking straight and true, minimizing the impacts experienced by other boat models.
Simply put, an MJM gives its owners a profound sense of confidence and security and has the capability to back it up.
